Air Jordan 1 Mids Are Coming into Popularity

Air Jordan 1 Siluotte is arguably the Jordan Brand’s prized retro. It is the most released retro and every release sells out. The Jordan 1 Mids however have gotten a bad reputation within the sneaker culture. The reason being could be that many of the colorways that are released resemble high-top colorways and can create the perception that they are the sneaker sneakerheads have to settle with.

Jordan 1 History

To understand the Air Jordan 1 Mid situation you must first know the history of the Jordan 1 Mid. Believe it or not, Michael Jordan liked mid-top sneakers much more than high tops. In 1987, Tinker Hatfield was tasked with creating a new signature sneaker for MJ. Hatfield went to meet Jordan to get ideas on how he wanted his new sneaker to feel, Michael Jordan expressed that he found both the Air Jordan 1 and 2 too tall and high, as a result, too restrictive. This caused Hatfield to design the Air Jordan 3 as a mid-top.

Tinker Hatfield’s quote can be confirmed by Sotheby’s 2020 auction of a special edition pair of game-worn Air Jordan 1 from 1985. In a comment to CNN, the auction house confirmed that the 1985 player sample sneaker was in fact a mid-cut — not a high top, as many of us had assumed. Additionally, people could not connect the Jordan 1 Mid with Michael Jordan himself, other than the Jordan logo being on the shoe. It would leave people asking, “does Michael Jordan even wear Jordan 1 Mids.” This very phenomenon is what had the internet in a frenzy when Michael Jordan was seen wearing the Nike Air Jordan 1 Mid Heat Reactive Color Change on the basketball court.

Are the Jordan 1 Mids Comfortable? How do they fit?

When it comes to comfortability the AJ 1 Mid offers a very similar under-foot feel to the Air Jordan 1s as the Highs and Lows. The mids mostly vary in the construction of the upper. The Jordan 1 Mids fit snugger than the Jordan 1 Highs but a bit looser than the Jordan 1 Lows. The silhouette is more on the narrow side, so if you’re flatfooted, it’s best to go up half a size to get the most comfortable fit.  Pay attention to the forefoot which is double-reinforced with lace overlays that exerts pressure around your forefoot.

Should I buy a pair of AJ 1 Mids? Which Ones?
