The Controversial MSCHF Wavy Baby x Tyga
MSCHF Wavy Baby x Tyga
The Tyga x MSCHF Wavy Baby ‘Black’ delivers a playful sneaker collaboration between the LA rapper and Brooklyn-based creative collective. Inspired by a classic skate shoe, the low-top features a black canvas upper with wavy contrast stitching and an equally wavy side stripe in white leather. The distorted lines extend to the white rubber midsole, accented with black pinstripe detailing and a Wavy-branded license plate in crimson. Underfoot, the waffle-traction outsole displays a peel-away sticker that reads ‘Warning: By placing your foot in this shoe, you agree to waive any claims against MSCHF for any injury, death, or damages arising from having your foot in this shoe.
This is a shoe that you will want to have! It is truly a 1 of 1 sneaker that you will want to say you own. This shoe is already super controversial. It is an iteration of the Van’s Old School model. The wavy baby shoe is similar to the Lil Nas X shoe the one that is a “satan shoe” because it was supposed to mimic blood and took the internet by storm with his music video.
The Wavy Baby shoe is going to stir up a lot of chaos. MSCHF’s site and released by cofounder Daniel Greenberg, the company said it is not a skate shoe, but the “platonic ideal of a skate shoe, warped to s–t.” Needless to say, the creators simply do not care about how radical the design is and the problems that are going to come from the shoe. They wanted to meet with the legal team about the skool silhouette they are mimicking about future collaborations and were responded to with “LMAO”. This approach to stir up controversy with a corporate company is a menacing approach with the possibility of trademark infringement.
Who doesn’t love good shoe designs? If you’re looking for an art collective piece this is definitely the go to shoe. MSCHF told highsnobiety, a lifestyle blog site that the wavy baby sneakers might create a ton of backlash because it is a ripoff of a Van’s shoe. Whether it is right or wrong it is all too common now for celebrities to take a very popular shoe model and give it a new twist.
